ACADEMICS

Elementary School Grades K-5

At this critical juncture in the forming of young minds, we focus on a strong foundation; thinking and creativity. Our rigorous and innovative curriculum challenges each child to incorporate EPA’s philosophy of academic excellence in everyday schooling. Students receive instruction in language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, geography, and world languages. We then explore a diverse artistic elective grouping of art, music, and technology. Since each child learns at his/her own pace, EPA teachers apply a thematic approach that makes the learning meaningful and interesting.

Elementary School Program of Study

English

Our reading, writing & language arts program is designed to develop engaged, independent readers and writers who can acquire and evaluate information and express ideas with clarity and eloquence. The program emphasizes the relationship between reading and writing, and the developmental nature of each.

Math & Science

The Elementary Program stresses the acquisition of mathematical power – ability to use, explain, and justify mathematics. The Science Program offers a balance of hands-on experiences and science content. Computers are introduced in carefully constructed environments to ensure that younger students understand the proper use of technology.

Social Studies

The Social Studies program includes the study of man’s relationships, both past and present, and draws its subject matter from geography, history, anthropology, economics, political science, and social psychology. As the program is developed through grade levels, students are made aware of the larger world around them.

Middle School

The middle school program at EPA is the cornerstone of our comprehensive education experience. A continuance of our teaching philosophy, we present new information via “discovery” based on their interests. Our goal in middle school is to demonstrate the benefits of organizing the information they learn into valuable reference points and teaching the practical application of knowledge. Students learn how to tap into these resources as they apply in day-to-day living. Students are grouped not strictly by age but also by their interests.
